BISNISTIME.COM, JAKARTA — On October 24-25, 2024, lecturers from the Faculty of Communication Science at University of Pancasila and Esa Unggul University collaborated in a community service program (PKM) held in Kepulauan Seribu, Jakarta. During this two-day event, they offered training titled “Digital Literacy and Public Relations” to students and teachers from Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 on Pulau Harapan and Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri (SMAN) 69 on Pulau Pramuka. The activity involved eight lecturers and two students who actively contributed to the program, Wednesday October 30th,2024.
Community service, or “Abdimas,” is an essential component of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, alongside teaching and research. Through Abdimas, lecturers are not only able to share their expertise with local communities but also contribute to societal progress and well-being, fulfilling university performance indicators, particularly recognition within IKU 3.
Dr. Gede Moenanto from University of Pancasila expressed his hope that the program would benefit the students and all involved. “I hope this event runs smoothly and brings value to everyone,” he conveyed after the signing of a cooperation agreement with MAN 1 Jakarta, represented by Principal Maesarati, S.Pd.
Euis Nurul Bahriyah, S.E, M.Si., representing Esa Unggul University, echoed the same sentiments, emphasizing the importance of the collaboration. Following the signing of both the Cooperation Agreement (PKS) and Implementation Arrangement (IA), she stated, “We hope this event will meet everyone’s expectations and run successfully.”
The first day’s activities at MAN 1 took place at the child-friendly public space (RPTRA) on Pulau Harapan, as the school is currently under renovation. Digital literacy sessions were delivered by lecturers, including topics on Optimizing the Digital Image of Kepulauan Seribu by Dr. Gede Moenanto, Digital Ethics by Dr. Nurmala, Media Literacy by Endang Roh Suciati, S.Sos, M.Si., and Digital Proficiency by Wenang Hidayatulloh, S.P., M.M. Dodi Rahmat Gunawan, S.Sos., PGD, M.Si., also contributed by conducting surveys with the students. The lecturers emphasized responsible and wise use of digital media to maximize its benefits while avoiding potential pitfalls. The session was well received by students, who asked questions and engaged actively.
The second day of PKM took place at SMAN 69 on Pulau Pramuka, where teachers and around 40 students attended. In addition to digital literacy, topics on Public Relations were covered, including Building a Positive School Image by Ivanina Zuhdi Pane, S.Sos, M.S., and Public Speaking skills by Dr. Jatayu Hadi, who serves as the Head of the Communication Studies Center at Esa Unggul University. The training was complemented by material from Euis Nurul Bahriyah, S.E, M.Si, and Dr. Gede Moenanto.
In a warm and interactive environment, the trainers encouraged students to participate by answering questions and sharing their responses in front of the class. At the end of the program, lecturers presented gifts to the most engaged students, while SMAN 69 students gifted the lecturers a framed mirror crafted with local materials from Pulau Pramuka, symbolizing the bond created through this meaningful exchange.
