BISNISTIME.COM, SEMARANG – Is traveling with an electric car safe? Absolutely, safe and sound. We proved it with the Chery Omoda E5, an electric hatchback SUV from China.
We took a long-distance trip from Jakarta to Semarang using an electric car via the Pantura route, through the Cikopo and Palimanan toll roads, covering 438 km.
The trip took 5 hours and 42 minutes; we charged the Chery Omoda E5 to 100%, allowing for 450 km on a full charge. We averaged a speed of 100-145 km/h in eco mode.
Starting at 4 a.m., we paused at 9 a.m. when the battery reached 40%. After about three hours and 60% battery use, it was time for our first charge.
Charging at PLN’s public station (SPKLU) with the PLN app and GoPay, the cost was Rp 70,000. While waiting 45 minutes, we had breakfast, feeling like schoolkids with packed lunches.
After charging, we continued to Semarang, aiming to reach the GIIAS 2024 event at Dome Muladi. A bit too excited, we almost didn’t notice an 8% battery drop while cruising at 145 km/h.
Were we worried? Not at all. Every rest area on the Cikopo-Palimanan toll road has fast-charging SPKLU stations.
At our second charge, when battery was down to 8%, we paid Rp 130,000 for a full charge in 54 minutes, enjoying a quick rest and a shower since the temperature was a hot 31°C. Back on the road, we arrived in Semarang at 12 p.m., stopping first at the Ciputra Hotel.
In conclusion, after driving the Chery Omoda E5, this electric vehicle is ideal for long trips and vacations. It’s economical (costing us only Rp 200,000), offers reliable comfort and safety, and charging stations are everywhere—just a bit more waiting time for charging. Soon, with ultra-fast charging, even that will be down to seconds.
