BISNISTIME.COM, JAKARTA – From October 3rd to 5th, 2024, the Master of Educational Management students from Universitas Pamulang (Unpam) conducted a Community Service Program (PKM) at SMP Negeri 16 Jakarta. This program, titled “Perfume-Making Workshop to Foster Entrepreneurial Spirit Among Students,” was aimed at encouraging creativity and entrepreneurial skills in junior high school students.
The workshop targeted students who are members of the Student Council (OSIS) of SMP Negeri 16 Jakarta, with the goal of instilling innovative thinking and entrepreneurial attitudes at an early age. The event featured both theoretical sessions and hands-on practice in perfume-making, a product chosen to show how students can create valuable items with minimal investment.
The event was chaired by Dr. Sri Utaminingsih, S.E., S.Pd., M.M.Pd., and supported by Dr. Surasni, M.Pd., and Dr. Lili Nurlaili, M.Ed., who also served as advisors. Attendees included school officials such as the Vice Principals of Student Affairs, Curriculum, and Facilities, as well as teachers and students from SMPN 16. The participants also included graduate students from Unpam’s Master of Educational Management program, who acted as the resource persons.
In her opening remarks, Bintarti Widhaningrum, M.Pd., the Principal of SMPN 16 Jakarta, emphasized the importance of integrating entrepreneurship into the students’ learning journey. Dr. Lili Nurlaili further reinforced this message, urging students to embrace digital technology for marketing their products. She highlighted how the creation of a simple product, like perfume, could lead to significant profits with minimal capital, fostering an entrepreneurial mindset.
Dr. Surasni, M.Pd., provided students with a comprehensive yet concise overview of entrepreneurship. She emphasized the importance of creativity, innovation, and perseverance in business, stating that these qualities would help students develop their entrepreneurial potential and financial independence.
Both Dr. Surasni and Dr. Lili Nurlaili reiterated the growing trend of entrepreneurship among young people, encouraging students to view it as a sustainable career path. Through innovation and continuous effort, entrepreneurs can find opportunities to expand their ventures, a mindset that was instilled throughout the workshop.
Perfume, a product used daily for boosting confidence and leaving positive impressions, was selected for its simple manufacturing process, which involves basic ingredients like fragrance oil, alcohol, and solubilizers. The workshop demonstrated that with proper knowledge, students could easily create high-quality perfumes and sell them as part of their entrepreneurial activities.
By fostering entrepreneurial skills early on, programs like this help students build self-reliance, creativity, and confidence, preparing them to become future leaders and independent individuals. This aligns with Indonesia’s current independent curriculum, which emphasizes experiential learning and entrepreneurship as key components of students’ development.
